PFAS in Drinking Water & Health

What are PFAS and what do they do to your body?

International perspective on PFAS in water

  • 🔗 EPA (US) – Health Effects of PFAS

Links PFAS to thyroid problems, cancer, immunotoxicity and liver problems. But also to reduced fertility, hormone disruption, increased cholesterol and weakened immune system

Long-term exposure to PFAS

  • 🔗 Harvard Public Health – PFAS: link to hormone mediated cancers

connect PFAS to ovarian cancer and melanoma, among others.

Drug Residues, Chemical Cocktail in Water

190 tons of drug residues in surface water

    Impact on people and nature

  • In addition, there are also articles that are hard to find, removed or behind a paywall, such as an article published by De Volkskrant on June 7, 2017 with the title "Tap water contains traces of 140 medicines" which was based on a study by the RIVM and the STOWA report (Foundation for Applied Water Research) with the title "Medicines in the water chain". Why these sources were removed? We don't know for sure, take a guess we would say ;)

More than 11.6 million Dutch people use medication

In a country with approximately 17 million people, you could say that we live in a very sick country. Just think about the fact that all these people pee and poop every day, and that all ends up in the sewage.

Microplastics in drinking water and human blood

BPA and hormone disruption

🔗 Stowa – Hormone disrupting substances in drinking water

Fluoride and PFAS are classified as “endocrine disruptors” – linked to fertility problems.

NIH- on endocrine disruptors

Most of the writing is about PFAS and PFOA, but fluoride also falls under the "endrocrine disruptors".
